Would you dump your girl friend if you think her parents are racist?

August 18th 2009 09:58
Ok, here is the catch.

There is this girl I know from Uni. She was crying her eyes out the other day, because her Korean boy friend dumped her, after meeting her parents for the first time.

Aparaently the guy think her parents are racist. (For the record the girl and her family aren't Asian, they are white.)

Well, aparaently her parents are not racist, but like some conservatives, the girl's dad do have a tendency of mistaking any culture modernization in the Eastern world, to be of a western influence and as a form of westernization, where in reality it isn't the case.

For the record for anybody that don't know, culture modernization is not culture westernization. Culture Modernization is about a society evolving and improving beyond conservative culture, leaving behind outdate culture believe that is either inadequate to time or is wrong. E.g. racism, sexism etc.

However, because the influence of our conservative ideology a lot of more conservative people have the tendency of mistaking any modernization in none western country, to come into existence with western influence. Something, that make a lot of people from none western culture mistakening them as mere racist.

Anyway, the girl's Korean boy friend got kind of offended, he smiled and act nice towards the family, but a few days later he dumped her. The two of them have been dating for two years and now she is crying her heart out.

Now, here is my question would you dump your girl friend, if you think her parents are racist to your race?

No. It's what your partner thinks that counts. Not his/her parents.

The essence of racism is discriminating against people for something beyond their control, ie their biological origins.

The girl can hardly be held responsible for the attitude of her parents - regardless of whether they're actually racist or not - so how is discriminating against her on those grounds any different?

If they're racist, he's committing the same fundamental injustice.

I was watching TV the other day and there were story about people who put their wife before themselves and people who put themselves before their wife.

One thing we can say for certain, he is the type of guy that put himself before his wife.
