Blogger’s Reality Check: The Credibility of Hate Posts
When people sign up to a Blog site they do so to express something about their thinking. Freedom of expression is a wonderful thing. It this entry point to any society whether it is virtual or personal there is little you can do to control the opinions people have about you. In variable most people will treat you like a blank slate where you have no black marks against your reputation. Silence may cause people to think you say little because you are a fool or you say little because you are no fool. Yet as soon as you speak or as in the case of a blog, you write then everyone will know what you are. Like the old adage ‘you can tell a lot about a person by what they say.’ Yes things about you become very obvious within a few posts. Your likes, dislikes, preferences, prejudices and even hatreds if you have them, are all on display to the world. Your inner self and your life to some degree become an open book as you sprawl away. In most cases this reveals something about people that is the best about them in a small number it shows them as they are.
Hate Posts are like effluent, they seem so fertile but smell so bad. The attraction of hate is its emotional power and passion that seems to know what to do in a crisis. Hate gives justification to do what would be morally repugnant to others because hate is seen as proactive and courageous by the hater. The KKK sell them selves these days as a white pride organization and the various Nazi groups sell them selves as an Arian pride group. Their website say that they are hate groups but have solid policies of love that compels their rejection of an integrated society. (Pull the other one) Unfortunately for some victims actions have spoken louder than words and when you dig further into their website you see the level of vitriol that exists. Every crime ever committed by a black person is listed as part of a grand conspiracy against the whites. Read even a little of Mein Kampf and you will see nothing but sneering contempt of ‘the masses’ and hate of certain groups. It may be obvious today but some decades ago it was another influential publication. What has destroyed the influence of these organizations is the crumbling of their credibility. A crushed Germany made it obvious that Nazi’s were not supermen and the civil rights movement shone a light upon the KKK.
It should be obvious that every post that disagrees with my opinion is not a threat to whole world. Everyone can have an opinion but does it mean that the opinion is valid? If the answer is no, then why not? What distinguishes the validity of one opinion verses another? Two opposable opinions cannot both be right. It is the credibility of the evidence used to support the opinion that decides which if any is correct. Unfortunately this important factor is sometimes lost in the rush of words and bruised egos. “I must have pushed your button on this one,” we can often read as a response to credible evidence. It as if it is school yard where name calling is used to win a fight. Trying to push emotional buttons rather than logical ones would be laughable if it wasn’t used so often in posts. In the end who cares about such tactics? They are not even clever.
A Hate post is sometimes obvious at once with sensational headlines to grab your attention. Often containing the name group that they have targeted. Collective guilt and guilt by association are also common. ‘They want to rape your Daughters,’ or ‘Why we should never let this ethnic group in to our Country,’ or ‘Every child in this country is being taught to Hate Us.’ These are titles that are designed to stir the emotions and trick people into not using their heads. Every strong opinion begs a stronger question. The question is one of evidence. A strong opinion that demands extreme action without credible evidence is nothing more than an emotional outburst and should be treated with contempt. Repeating the same demand over multiple posts and failing to supply credible evidence shows that someone has issues and may in fact harbor hatred.
Admittedly everyone blows their stack once in a while. Some do it in private, other on the net. Some blow off steam at a frustrating situation then return back to being less aggressive. Harboring resentment and using guilt by association or collective guilt as tool is bad logic. You need only find one exception to the accusation and the credibility of the claim is exposed for what it is: Prejudice.
There are one two questions someone needs to ask them selves when they read a post.
1-Has credible evidence been presented?
2-What is the track record of the person’s previous posts?
In the first question only that individual post has been tested.
In the second question the credibility of the writer can be determined.
To assume that everyone who spreads hate is an idiot is wrong. Some are cunning; some are clever; some are ignorant. The purpose of creating a Hate post is to spread more Hate and that is something we don’t need more of.
My advise is always:
-Check out all sensational claims independently
-Check all evidence through 2 sources if possible
-Do Not believe what cannot be proven
-In most cases you can sit back and wait for the unscrupulous to ruin their own Credibility
Also do not assume that I am telling the truth.
I could be trying to fool you.
So check out my sensational claims too.
Write your own title for this picture so that you can blame your enemy. I know it is wrong but some people would do it.

Ask for the name of the show and you get a blank face.
Come on, if I'm going to believe that then I should also believe that Queen Elizabeth II was arrested for Lesbo-Stalking.

In answer to your grandmother, 'I am a certain as you are.'

So Davids post was a cruel hoax. I am shocked.
Yet using the same lack of evidence both posts have the same credibility in my mind. The difference is I would read Davids because at least the bloke is a damn entertaining writer and damn funny to boot.
Not so for the ones that take themselves too seriously.

It is not often I am lost for words but ...
I could ask for proof of your sensational claim but for now I will take on faith.

Anyway, I agree Damo, so long as you're going to lie you might as well be funny doing it.
