Rudd got ax are you fucked kidding me!!!?
June 25th 2010 00:35
Jesus Chris, Kevin Rudd got ax as Prime Minister by his own party, without even going through the voters.
What the fuck man?
You see this is what is wrong with this country's governemtn structure, the party that can get the majority of the vote can change the nation's leader whenever they want.
I mean whether we want Rudd back in office or not next term, should be determine by the voters, right?
As if they are doing this leader shift on the NSW State government level they are doing it on a Federal level too, this is bad.
I won't find hard to imagin, how many people that would have originally vote labor would go and vote liberal now, simply because of the fact even if we elect Julia Gillar into power, the Labor backbanch might just replace her with somebody else again.
I swear to god, this is why I say, Australia need a Federal government more similar to the US, where the people elect a President directly and the President form an administration government and is spereate from the Parlimant.
Sigh...

And Parliament! So mistakes I think my head is going to explode!
I couldn't focus on your "point" through the pile of mistakes...
eg: government, separate, Gillard, "should be determined" (not - determine), Kevin Rudd got the axe (not - got ax)
Kevin Rudd got ax.... sounds like he owns one & is not afraid to use it. Maybe for revenge?
Imagine has an "e", backbench (not - backbanch), and "without going through the voters" - that needs revision. Going through the voters - I'd like to see Kevin Rudd perform that magic trick.
There is sooooooo many more but no time to go through them all here.
Sorry to be a stickler but my heart goes out to you as a fellow blogger & if you want people to read your stuff then you should at least proof-read your work before posting or get someone else to do that. Sometimes others can see what we miss & that can be helpful.
I'd be happy to help. I used to teach English.
My opinion - Julia Gillard might be the symbol for all young girls to aspire to. Better than the ditsy celebrities who use the word "like" as if it were the glue to keep their sentences together. I say... Go Julia Gillard!
May you keep that strength within yourself to carve a path for all women to follow!!
Thanks Peter for allowing me to share!

The title "Rudd got ax are you fucked" - is hilarious. If Rudd has an "ax" then we are fucked because a man with a weapon is dangerous. And you never know... Kevin Rudd might be driven to kill us all with his "ax".... lol!!!

As for the opinion expressed, it's one shared by many (including my own father) but this is just how things are. What Julia Gillard 'did' to Kevin Rudd is pretty much what Paul Keating 'did' to Bob Hawke - they're Labor politicians and it's all part of the game.
Regardless of how earthy and kind Gillard may seem, she's clearly a strong and (at times) ruthless pollie, who knows how to get the public to love her, and for these reasons and many more I believe she'll be a great PM - though of course only time will tell.
Love a healthy debate

One of the main reason, we moved away from the governemt structure of the days of the king, (Full dicatorship by the king at Europe and a Two house share dictatorship goverment structure in Asia <The Emperor as one house and the Imperial court as the second house>
However, disregards to whether Julia Gillard is a good leader or not (Which I think she would be a good PM) the problem reflect is that in this country we have very little control of who become our PM and that decision is really up to the party who got elected into power. This is despite the fact in reality we would elect a party into power, usually because of who they would promote as PM.
It is not like in the US, Taiwan or Korea where they can have immidate control of who they want to be their leader, where people can elect a President directly.
Personally, I think, Australia's Federal politic must adopt a structure more similar for the US, to create a more democractic government structure. I mean, I know for some country, democracy isn't what is best for them (e.g. Saldi Arabia, Singapore and some believe it is not good for Afghanistan too.), but Australia isn't one of those countries, therefore, we should push for a more democractic government structure.

putting aside typographical errata, grammar etc, I see Mister Wonderful's point, however, we the voting public still have a chance to correct any problems at the next election, which seems to run at around three years anyway, as they usually call an election way before the end of their four year term, when a popular poll suggests they will win.
However, I do accept Peter's point, it is true, but direct election of the leader only by public vote can have other problems, like being stuck with a leader that is leading the country the wrong way, which is why Rudd got axed by his party.
I am sorry Rudd stopped listening to his advisors, I am sorry he felt he must have almost autocratic control over all the main issues, really, at the end of the day, Rudd brought himself down, as his mistakes mounted up.
In closing, Peter, look at it this way, it is another inbuilt fail safe mechanism that can protect the country from a leader causing more harm than good.
I wish the Liberals had gotten rid of Howard, but Costello was too weak willed to stand up to him, and Howard's ego kept him in the leader's seat, as he wanted to last longer than Menzies did, our longest serving PM.

P.S. To the tirade delivered by the anonymous commentator above, yes we can understand what Peter has written, but, not bothering to correct small errors makes some readers think the writer is unintelligent and their point of view not worth considering, even though Peter is obviously intelligent, as those who have read his blog over time already know, but, that is the usual superficial reaction by general readers, they are a little too quick to judge.....
Samantha was trying to be helpful, but was expressing herself a little too passionately, obviously, as she has a personal interest in Gillard being elected. We all have our failings, we all make small mistakes... and anonymous, next time you want to take a stand, why not post under your writing name?

I like your approach and I do agree that the US style government structure isn't perfect either.
We have a similar structure at Taiwan and currently we have an dume ass in charge, his approval rating has drop to 6% and there is no way he would get reelected for a second term, but he would still serve out his four year term as President.
But the parlimentary system we got ain't perfect either. There are no guarntee that even if we elected Jullia Gillar as Prime Minister, she would not eventually be kicked out of power by the labor backbanch and been replace by somebody we do not want.
Personally, I think Rudd is still Ok, but that is my opinion only, but putting that aside, the main reason Rudd got kick out of the top job was because the labor backbanch think with Rudd in charge they would loose the next election and honestly, I do not really see Tony Abbot as a better choice for Prime Minister either.
However, our government structure has deomcractice a lot now, thanks for John Howard, the Governor General, is now a puppet head of state, who can not dismiss a government elected by the people, like how George Whitler's goverment was been dismissed.
I believe what we need is a federal government structure similar to the US, but the citizen of the country have the power to dismiss the president's adiminstration if they choose to.
A lot of country have constitute that allow it, I think in Norway they have similar structure in place, I think it is the same case with the US, I know at Taiwan, if the Parliment see the President to be unfit they can call on a public election to decide whether they want a new president or not. That allows us to keep many of the advantage of a Two Party system but take away many of the disadvantage.
But of course this is still not perfect, for example at Taiwan, dispite the fact the current President who is of the Nationist party have a 6& approval rate, the Parliment refuse to make the nation wide citizen vote of dismissing the president, because right now the nationist hold the majority seats within the parliment and they know they would loose to the Democrat in this time.
Cheers

Yes, I am a very, very passionate person. If anyone wants to shoot me down for actually sending my love to Peter then so be it...
If the unnamed person would like to note that I actually - publicly - offered my support to Peter as it is in my nature to want to be there for people. Even to Mr Anon, I would like to extend my open arms to you... you sound passionate yourself. Why not start a blog here and share your thoughts. I love passionate people.
Peter - thank you!! You are an aweSAM chap. I joined your community before you wrote this blog. And I was so moved by your blog about Kevin Rudd I wrote a blog on Julia Gillard. It all started when I started to write a comment in here about Julia and my thoughts when I suddenly thought it would make a great blog.
So I dedicate my "About Time Sister!! Julia Gillard - First Woman Prime Minister" to you!! You are an inspiration...

I appreciate the line of thought you put forward, but I still think our system has some advantages over the USA system, just look at George Bush, he had two terms, and what a mess he made of the world! Admittedly, US Presidents may only serve two four year terms, and they can be impeached, and I do like a lot of aspects about their system, particularly since they have a Bill of Rights for their citizens, something neither Labor nor Liberal want to have in Oz.
I say all political systems have some advantages and disadvantages, and I lived through the Whitlam years of goverment, and the mistake they made was to not discuss the government's intentions about mining in Oz, this eventually was one of the key factors in America turning against Whitlam's government, and assisting to bring about its downfall.
Basically, he Labor Caucus thought Rudd looked like he was heading into the same dangerous waters by his refusal to adjust the super tax on the mining industry, so rather than see Labor slowly pulled apart and lose the election, they saw it as necessary to make Rudd step down, because Rudd refused to listen to anyone, and the polls showed Labor would lose government with him as leader.

and that is interesting news about Taiwan, I have wondered what was going on there, since the backdown by the leaders on speaking out about becoming controlled by China.
How are things going on that front in Taiwan now, regarding being recognized as an independant State?
