Pregnant man 'verified' on Oprah
Thursday Apr 3 12:00 AEDT

By ninemsn staff

An American man's pregnancy claim appears to have been verified in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

A preview of the first interview with transgender man Thomas Beatie shows him receiving an ultrasound on his stomach — apparently proving he is indeed carrying a child.

The Oregon couple take cameras on a tour of their nursery and answer questions from Winfrey regarding the sensitive ethical issues surrounding their unborn child.

Mr Beatie was born a woman, but had surgery on his chest to remove his breasts. He also underwent testosterone therapy, but his reproductive organs were not removed.

He caused widespread controversy after claiming to be pregnant in a magazine for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender readers last month.

Mr Beatie says he is carrying the child, conceived with donor sperm, because Nancy was infertile after undergoing a hysterectomy.

The child is reportedly due on July 3.

Thanks Peter... I think....

He was born a woman and is therefore not a 'real' man.
I find nothing particularly amazing about a person with female reproductive organs conceiving a child, irrespective of what Oprah tells me to think...

Peter, at first I thought it was a joke but it makes sense that he was born a woman and thus, able to get pregnant. Although I had some hope there that guys would finally take the burden of pregnancy from us women...

I was wondering how that was possible......but if he was born a woman and still has reproductive organs than it's not as surprising.

Still kinda weird though!

I know this sounds like a big sensation but we could always look at it from another viewpoint.
Woman have mastectomies all the time for medical reason.

Change of clothes and a good deal of noise and then you too can be on the pillar of importance: Orpra.

I found it weird at first, but hey, she's a woman by nature so no biggie. You can't fight maternal instinct.

oh but ya'll... he's not actually a man. He (and I use that term very loosely) is actually a woman.

reminds me of pixie from Monkey Magic, the first and last man to have a baby, allegedly because he complained too much about the pain

I love monke magic.

Actually, the TV series was base on a really Chinese legion story. About an apt who have god like power and an level of intelligent that is higher then human, but because this ape have a fussy personality, this legion is always been made into comedies by Asian TV these days.

Thanks Ananymous. personally (and just to make it clear I am not trying to be offensive to anyone.) I am always a little bit curious about the psychological reason behind why people become gay and lesbians. I got nothing against them of course, but I am just curious that is all.

I mean, will a lesbian still be attracted to a man that was once a woman?

Will a man who had a sex change to become woman, still be attracted to woman or man, or do it varies with people

etc.

I just find it intersting that is all

cheers
