Mugabe Runs Unopposed but without his Knighthood
Robert Mugabe is betting on sure thing as he enters into an election runoff without any opposition. The situation in Zimbabwe has become so violent that opposition candidate Morgan Tsvangirai has decided to boycott the elections.
The pre-election violence in Zimbabwe has been increasing as government forces have been systematically terrorizing and intimidating people.
Even election observers have not been spared the wrath as shown by this statement by the independent Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) said that it was “gravely concerned about the safety of its observers given the deliberate targeting”.
Meanwhile international pressure does not seem to be effecting the behaviour of the Mugabe regime.
On a positive not however, The Queen has removed the Knighted that she bestowed upon him a decade ago.
The decision was announced by the British Foreign Office Wednesday as a “mark of revulsion” at the human rights abuses and “abject disregard” for democracy over which he has presided.

Thanks for your comment.
I think he got his knighthood before he went nuts.
Yet I do agree with the decision to take it away. That will hurt him personally more than anything.

More drama unfolds in the whole election thing, people are feeling the pressure there, that`s for sure.
The reason why he is in power is because of the Queen - she should be doing a whole lot more than removing his Knighthood to get him out of there. It`s a wonder that everyone is still standing by and watching him carry on like the maniac he is... they knew there would be bloodshed this past month and yet.... nothing!
Very infuriating! Thanks for highlighting this issue so frequently

From knighthood to benighted!!!
How ruudy apt is my witticism in this case???
Anyhoo, he is a loathsome scumbag and needs a 'vitamin Pb' injection! What I wonder is, why isn't the good ole CIA or MI6, or whatever, training and arming the people to overthrow the tyrant?
They have used those tactics for decades in other countries, and all for no good of course, but here is a case where they could justify their illegal actions at least, by helping overthrow a despot for once, instead of propping one up, which is their usual course of action.

I am not sure that starting another civil war in Africa is going to solve the problem.
Despots love war because they can get revenge.

problem is, doing nothing is only allowing this loathsome moron to continue his rein of terror. Besides, the opposition (actually, it is technically the new government) has indicated it wants the West to size up to the despot and threaten him, backing its threats with military force.
Tsvangirai is clever not to ask directly for military intervention, because then they could get him on treason, but it does not take too much brain strain to read what his requests really amount to.
War is vile, no argument, however, to sit back and watch, giving the occasional word of condemnation, achieves nothing in Mugabe's case, and he has said so.
I still say, something should be done to force him from power, and quickly.

Adding to the conflict is not something that I would endorse.
Mugabe came to power via a revolution so the irony of another revolution may turn the country into another Rwanda.
Unfortunately the reality is unless people are personally willing go over there any talk of fighting is moot.
