Is this For Real 2: The Answer
February 11th 2007 01:40
The Image used in yesterdays post was sent to me by a friend. Instantly it made me ask two questions: Is this For Real? and, Is it a fake?
I place the image in my post to see how others would react to an image that could either be an example of insanity; an eloborate hoax or even a joke.
Who took the picture is unknown.
All we have is this document to either prove or disprove it self.
So a proper investigation can only focus upon the image to solve the mystery.
After examining this image closely in Photoshop my conclusion is that this image is a FAKE.
I will provide the evidence that convinced me and see if any else agrees.
Step 1:
Puting a grid over the picture shows that it is perfectly trimmed.
This is impossible for a document that has so many other imperfections and is hand finished.
The alignment of the image is also too perfect.
Step 2:
Note that part of the permitt has a plastic coating to hold the image in place.
Wrinkles are at the edges of the photo stop for no reason.
Step 3:
The final piece of evidence is the stamp that is across the females picture.
The real stamp has black and white square in the logo.
The fake stamp suddenly reversed the colours when the go over the photo.
This is impossible with ink but not in Photoshop.
The artists wanted to make the stamp standout.
So there you have it. In my opnion this image is not just fake but also a poor quality fake.
The purpose of creating the image was most likely as a Joke.
What are your thoughts?

I think it's a sick joke, and for many that image is all too real. I abhor it.
katyzzz.....women of the world unite to free the women from this garment.

It is most likely a sick joke trying to make fun of Muslim women. However it could intentional misinformation designed to inflame passions and anger.
The point I was trying to make was one of how seeing is not always believe and how emotions can effect our perceptions.

I thought it was a reference to the controvercy where Muslims were told not to wear their hijabs for passport photos. I kind of liked it.
My advice - next time try www.snopes.com - the best place to verify whether an internet meme is valid or not.

Well it's very much recommended for women to cover their body, that includes hair and head, but covering the face is purely optional, there is nothing wrong with exposing ones face to anyone else.
On the matter of covering your whole body up with a hijab, it isn't forced upon women, but it is highly recommended. So you can't force an adult to dress up like that if she doesn't want to.
When it comes down to choice you realize it is pretty much a case of blending in, if you go to a country where all women cover then if you are a woman, even a tourist, you'll probably more or less feel inclined to dress the same to blend in better rather than stick out like a sore thumb. It's a different culture, where the women dress the way they do because it is their right to, and they don't feel oppressed because of it having been raised as such. It is a matter of different cultures, different ideals.
So basically in some countries it's a trend, a fashion trend if you will (more like dress code), no one can by the proper shariah law force women to cover themselves. However since women are raised with the idea of dressing in a certain way it does tend to grow on them.
In the same way women here in Australia for instance get all shocked at how women in another country dress, those women will more or less be shocked.
Like I said in a previous post, if just cause is given for unveling then so be it, theres nothing wrong with showing off a face for a passport photo for instance. Problem is some people are a little misguided and take some aspects of the religion waaaay too extremely, and we end up with countries like Saudi Arabia.

Despite the fact that this is obviously a Fake, is it still likely that ID could end up like this?

First and foremost it makes no sense to take a photo of what isn't there, secondly you can't justify it with 'but she has a right to not show her face', sure she does, but for ID she should show her face, it is very well allowed religously speaking, and in terms of commonsense, well ti si common sense.

It's also slightly sus that the stamp over the picture differs from the other stamps -- it has less text.
Random thought: I think you should use the "relate this post" picture to join this entry to the previous.

Thanks for your comments.
I did notice the differences in the stamps but I was unsure whether it could be just a variation or an updated logo. There is also no smudging of the stamp like the others. However these I saw a inconclusive on their own.
Linking it? Yes good idea, I should have done it. Du Oh!
