Damo Interviews Damo. Enough Rope Style?
This an interview with Damo and Damo. So to save confusion I will call interviewer Me and the Interviewer Damo.
Me: Welcome to show Damo and might say that in real life you are much more good looking than I expect.
Damo: Thankyou it is pleasure to be here and as you may be away being good looking has always been our curse.
Me: You agreed to do this interview only after long period of refusing interviews. Why is that?
Damo: Well, I usually do like to put all my person stuff on the Internet and then have people squabble over a few minor details taken out of context. I am much more of an objectivist who would rather talk or write about subjects that outside of myself. I don’t think too many people care if I was upset because my pet Bunny ran away (which it did and I am upset) but I do think people are interested in what they think about things. I only agreed to this interview to demystify any false assumptions that people make about me as a person.
Me: Objectivist? Does that mean you see yourself as the objective voice?
Damo: Is anyone? I mean think about. We are influence by prejudices and biases and no matter how hard we try we will never be completely free. So try as we might there never ‘THE Voice’ of reason but many competing voices all claiming to be on the side of reason.
Me: Does that mean that you are in fact promoting a fraudulent line of think? On one hand you insist upon everyone being objective and on the other you claim that it is impossible.
Damo: When did I insist that anyone should be objective? Never. People can forward an argument in any manner possible from emotional, personal experience to empirical.
Me: Hmm? Does that mean that all arguments are equal and no one can really say who is actually correct?
Damo: Now that is an interesting question because it has two elements to it. One is the question of what is true and the other is the question of who will actually believe what you say. In mathematics it is easy offer satisfactory proof because of there is a direct correlation between the assertion and evidence. However in social issues it is not so simple. Evidence is often vague or subject to interpretation. Sometimes it is incomplete. So many times the best we can do is present an argument and provide the evidence to support it.
Me: I think what you are describing is an essay, am I correct?
Damo: Precisely. All that we can really do in writing is present an essay. If people find your arguments satisfactory and you evidence valid then they may agree with you. If they don’t then they will not.
Me: let’s take a look at your blog called MyApologetics. Why did you choose a name with such hardline connotations to it? Are you an apologist for a hidden agenda?
Damo: Hidden agenda? Hardly. I haven’t got much time to start selling anything. I write essays from one point of view and then months later from another. Sometimes I write satire which I find relaxing. I do have positions that make no secret about, as do most people, but I am quite realistic about how little influence an essay has. I actually wanted the name Point of View for my blog but it was taken so had to settle upon something else. I always liked original meaning of the word apologetics, which is to defend a point of view with evidence, and so it seemed natural to me.
Me: Let’s talk about you.
Damo: Please don’t.
Me: It is a personal interview so I insist.
Damo: Ho Hum...
Me: There seems to be very little information about you on Orble. We know a certain number of things about you, a bit of you past, the fact that you have children and your wife is from Sri Lanka. Yet there are just as many question that you refuse to answer. Like your real name, your religion if any, political affiliations, where you are working. Is this an accident or are you deliberately trying to hide something about yourself. Perhaps you are afraid that people may discover some dim dark secret and think less of you.
Damo: (laughs for moment before answering) If only I did have a dim dark secret then that would make a great blog wouldn’t. ‘Diary of a serial killer’ is a hell of lot more interesting than ‘I don’t know why I don’t have a girlfriend post.’ No, sorry to disappoint you and myself for that matter, there are no secret basements with trapped families in my house. However in answer to your question I do take a reasonable amount of privacy to protect myself and my loved ones.
Me: That sounds rather melodramatic. Protect them from what?
Damo: The internet is hardly a play ground for honest intellectuals trying to discover truths greater than themselves. I used work for a major ISP looking after high level faults. Often I would get people calling because they have been cyber stalked. One story was quite horrific and went over years. Yet at the time the legislation offered no protection for the victims. It just simply drove into my mind that unless you want every dirt bag on the Internet knowing your personal stuff, don’t give it to them. Hence there are no picture of my wife or kids on my blogs, no home phone numbers, no indication of religious affiliations and political allegiances. I find that it gives me more freedom to write what I want without someone passing it through their own prejudices first. Mr X is a something so therefore everything his says is tainted. I would rather deal with what I am saying rather than what character I am meant to represent.
Me: And yet as we can see from your track record people sometimes do get upset by what you write?
Damo: With over 4000 people on Orble and the millions on the net I cannot help but upset someone. The irony is that when I think that I am being provocative I get almost no complaints and times when I have written in the third person I get more complaints.
Me: Do complaints bother you? Are there any you think are valid and are there any that you think over step the mark?
Damo: Usually I do not get upset when people start randomly calling me names. I am thinking of making a list of the best insults that people have used. Yet I do find infantile lines of argument annoying because it hurts my brain to go down to that level. I do maintain a ‘do not delete posts’ policy as best as I can. Even if the comment is spiteful and utterly false I leave it there for others to read and decide for themselves. Trolls are another annoyance but usually I have a bit of fun before I let them go. All they really want is to say ‘Damo you suck and anyone who disagrees with that opinion only does so because they are idiots’.
Me: This seems to beg a question in mind. Are you a good person or a bad person, Hero or villain?
Damo: Does it matter. What I have written I have written.
Me: Damo I want to thank you this interview and we should do this again sometime.
Damo: Not too soon I hope. I have got other things to blog about.
Me: And that was Damo. Blogger and mystery man. Next week will be interviewing a person who has spent his entire life of a man who collects money at a public toilet. I must say that will be exciting.
Editorial comment:
Damo what a load of self indulgent crap.
How dare you be so hypocritical and write stuff like this?
Response:
Haven’t you worn out that word yet?

Thanks for your comments.
Yes I thought that this damo fellow had been escaping scrutiny for too long. So it was best I conduct an interview and let him hang himself on his own words.
Aka: Given enough rope he will hang himself.

Thanks for your comment.
In answer to your question. No I not a politician nor do I have any interest in becoming one.
This was just a post I did when I have no real subjects to post about.
