Bus Bomb Blast Kills 24 in Sri Lanka
24 people have killed and scores of other have been injured when a bomb on a crowded bus was detonated. Among the the dead was a small child and a Buddhist Monk. All other are said to be civilians. Official government sources are blaming the LTTE (Tamil Tigers) for the attack.
This is the worst targeted civilian killing since January where 32 people were shot whilst flee from a bus. More recently on April 6th 14 people were killed in a suicide bombing at a sports meet.
The attack came just two days after very costly and bloody battle in the north of Sri Lanka just West of the City of Jaffna. Official government reports initially downplayed the number of soldiers killed but later reports indicate that they may be as many as 150 dead Sri Lanka soldiers and as many dead LTTE cadres.

Jaffna in the North of Sri Lanka has had intensive fighting in the last two days. The Sri Lankan government and LTTE are still disputing the numbers killed.
The Bomb Blast was just South of Colombo
So far the civil war in Sri Lanka has killed over 70,000.

Thanks for your comments.
There has been a lot of battle field losses for the LTTE lately. I may be just away of forcing the government to divert troops back to Colombo.

I have Sri Lankan friends, on both sides, it just leaves one wondering why the PM does not sit everyone down and work out a deal that will achieve peace.
sad story...
cheers

My wife comes from Sri Lanka and I also have friends from the all the different ethnic groups.
The current President is committed to a military solution to the conflict. The ceasefire agreement was abandoned earlier this year.
Peace talks have gone on but they are difficult. There are just too many vested interests in keeping the war in a state of war.
War Lords stop being Lords when they don't have a war.

I have a dear and gorgeous girl...FRIEND...who is Sri Lankan...if only I was straight...sigh..and if only she was too...hehe!
Anyhoo, the PM, is it still that woman (???name??) who had rumours of bagging tsunami relief funds, and/or hanging on to them, not helping the Tamil community, fixing the rich in her electorate first...actually, it is starting to sound a bit like our own 'pork barrelling'...
Anyway, I I hear the PM is a tiny bit whiffy in the 'angel draws' department...you know...as crooked a dog's hind leg..
true?

Yes my wife keeps telling what wonderful taste I have.
All I can say is that Australian politics is like child's play in comparison to Sri Lanka.
I stay out of politics their as much as I can.
The current president replace the women a while back.
