Are Blogs Merely Vehicles for our Inner Hates?

Are Blogs Merely Vehicles for our Inner Hates?
bomb1
People we love to hate.

I have read time and again, people explode with rage in diatribes that are as emotional as they are unconvincing. They have discovered an enemy and sought out every evidence that confirms to themselves that this lifelong enemy is in fact ‘evil incarnate’. There is no question over this because in the world of self research, self editing and self righteousness there can only be one possible result. If you set out to prove that something is evil you will always find the evidence. For some this is enough to continue with their rage and hate until they pass into the grave without caring to know any better.

People do have the right to hate whom they please but such a right should never be mistaken for a virtue. Hate is hate and their little that can be done to reach into a person full of hate to make them realise that it is doing no good to anyone.

I often wonder whether I have wasted my time writing all those posts that defended the right of Muslims not to be judged collectively and the Islamic religion to be judged on what it says for itself, because in an instant there are others who would fling blame on any group: Jews, Israelites, Christian, Buddhists, Hindus etc, as long as it suits their imagined conquests. An academic discussion about the pros and cons of a particular concept and different belief is acceptable and should always be encouraged. However diatribes of condemnation that give no room for a ‘witness for the defence’ are little more than hardcore propaganda and offer nothing intellectual to people of education. How many people really want to hear why Buddhism is pure evil? How many want to start screaming outside Hindu temples that ‘cows are not sacred’. Such actions only show themselves to be desperate and ignorant of the complicated nuances within both those groups. Yet for some the concept of ‘collective blame’ and ‘judging others by your own standards’ is embraced in the same way an alcoholic embraces his bottle of booze. Fairness is not required if you first think that enemy deserve no mercy.

yes
Follow his guidance to build a better blog.

It may seem alien to think that people do get along despite the vast differences in what they believe, yet remarkably that is what the vast majority of people do. Common courtesy goes much further than any illusion of ideological and theological powers struggles across society. The term ‘peaceful coexistence’ might seem naive only to those with a desire to see divisions.

I am yet to meet a person that does not have opinions about something. Yet I meet too many who claim to be the possessors of the ‘terrible truth’ that has kept us enslaved for millennia. Too often do I find that such people have little interest in the ‘Truth’ and a far greater interest in finding a ‘scapegoat’ to heap their scorn upon (The Truth that they demand you accept). One word answers for complicated issues only expose the ignorance of the person who resorts to them and singular scapegoats for any complicated society only exposes further ignorance. Yes, we can all agree with Hitler if we listen to his diatribes and we can all read Soviet propaganda as if it is gospel. Yet for the educated person that is interested in seeking the truth neither should be taken on face value. Their passionate words are designed to appeal to hearts rather than the minds and thinking is important.
who
It does not matter to dead whose side they were killed for.

When I read letters to editor, editorials and blogs I often see the same level of passion. People do become irate when they feel that their ideas are being attacked and some take it as an attack upon their own ego. How dare anyone disagree with what they say? Hence we have largest explosion of human information sharing being dominated by the largest growth in hate groups. The anonymity and distance of the internet gives protection and cover for those that have nothing better to do than expose themselves as hate mongers. The annals and corridors of the Internet also offer a myriad of selected pseudo research resources whose evidence is questionable at best and downright deceptive at worse. What may seem like a genuine report can often be a manipulated half truth designed to inflame anger. Elsewhere pure ‘Black Propaganda’ touted as the honest truth is followed by thinly veiled calls for attack. Actual calls for attack can lead to bigger issues, like those of the Cronulla Riots in Sydney.

Hate is such an easy thing to resort to because it requires no intellectual effort and less self awareness. What some call their convictions are often nothing more than a list of enemies that they wish to use as scapegoats or whipping boys for their own bigotries. The sad fact is that often when people become so obsessed they can easily fall prey to other more dangerous people who are happy to exploit this weakness for their own agenda.

patriotism
Australian flags used as symbols to hide hate behind.

As a person who just blogged my incredible for the ipod I'm feeling pretty bad.
Sure, I'm not slagging off an entire race of people but still, who am I to say the ipod suck? Ok, I still think it sucks.
But thanks for the thought provoking post.
People are so quick to talk about why they don't like things but are much slower to praise.
I know i'm guilty of that.

Both of these types scare me. So what if you don't agree? Reading the opposite opinion can strengthen your own convictions and possibly enlighten you! I just hate it when someone with an opposing view leaves a comment as Anonymous!

Opinions are like backsides we all have them and... well, you know the rest... Or was that quote supposed to be about excuses? Oh well...

Blogging gives everyone a chance to express their own opinions on a huge variety of subjects. It also allows arguments against those same subjects. This isn't a bad thing at all. Creative discourse is a good thing! Preaching to the choir can be quite boring. That being said, I agree with Mr. Rickert that using "Anonymous" to bash other bloggers is a rotten thing to do. Anyone who is proud of what they think or believe should be willing to use their own name while defending their position. "Anonymous" is nothing but a verbal sniper.

Following other bloggers for the purpose of bashing them is also irritating. Debate and discussion can be good for everyone involved, dumping ugliness is a waste of everyone's time. I'm sure we all know people who do that, don't we?

Very thought-provoking post, Damo.

Thanks for your comments.

Anon can be good or bad regardless of whether the love your post or hate your post. It try to maintain a no delete comments rules and let the audience decide who is right. Some of best reads are from insults that anon and others have left. Sometimes I have a a few hints who anon could be by other times it could be anyone.

I agree with S.L that preaching to the converted can be incredibly boring and I think we should all hope for thoughtful argument when opinions differ, it's what makes the world go around. But when things get spiteful or someone starts verbally bashing someone because their opinions differ - well that's just small minded and sad.

Great post Damo and a good choice of photo, it really slams the point home. Hatred is pure waste.

For me blogging is a vehicle for my outer hate

My innerhate is reserved entirely for myself.

I'm just surprised how far out of the loop I am with all this current orble hate'n, I feel like I should be a part of it but can't find an entry point. I have absoloutely no idea what is going on -_-

I think I may as well just call it quits, start my own blogging community of people who hate each other and just stand back. Thats where they usually end up anyway so as far as I'm concerned it's just thinking ahead.

As an equal opportunity hater, I don't need a blog to loose my vitriolic tirades; little kids, puppies, kittens and granny lady's set me off Damo. What right do they have bestowed upon them to be so damn nice?

Give me an honest despot anytime, dishonest decent folks will shred you when you least expect it or deserve it. You can depend on the despot to be consistent.

Thanks for your comments.

If more people said what their agenda was I guess they would get less attention for their bile. "Warning Site Contains Dangerous Levels of Nazism."
Then I know to not drop by. But if a site sets it self up as an honest person pushed to edge then espouses every hate in their mind I feel deceived.

Equal opportunity hater?
The puppies and kitten never had a chance.
A hit to face is always better than a stab to the back.
Either way I would avoid both if I can.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, until I find a new friend or another enemy. Then out come the knives.

Inner hates can be very primal and self serving, I think.

Please do not see this as being directed at you or any individual, as it was not. I usually write my stuff after milling it in my head for a few days. So, I am really not so smart that I can send cryptic messages and dog whistles to the world.

Orble is a microcosm sometimes where sometimes people can wrongly assume you are writing about them. I write about my general issues and concerns and let the chips fall where they may.

So don't worry in 2 weeks time everyone has moved on to something else.

You make a very valid point. Blogging allows people to show their true feelings, at the same time they are still hiding behind the computer. You can say anything you want with out consequence. It doesn't cause the problem but at least its putting it out there for discussion.
